چکیده

A method for measuring polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) on fiber links using four-wave mixing (FWM) generation is presented. This method uses a probe signal to analyze the signal polarization state via FWM generation. The FWM power transfer function is derived in terms of the Stokes parameters, and is validated using both simulated and experimental results. Based on this transfer function, PMD measurements are presented that agree well with the actual PMD values. Compared to the traditional frequency-domain methods, this new method does not require a motionless condition for the measurement apparatus.

A Poincare Sphere Method for Measuring Polarization-Mode Dispersion Using Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) in Single-Model Optical Fiber

A nonlinear Poincare sphere method for measuring polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) using the four-wave mixing (FWM) effect in single-mode optical fibers is presented. This method is based on the FWM-power transfer function on the polarization states of the input signals. Average PMD can be obtained by using this method with measurements in just a narrow optical bandwidth.

Suppression of Four Wave Mixing Based on the Pairing Combinations of Differently Linear-Polarized Optical Signals in WDM System

Data transmission in optical systems and increased transmission distance capacity benefit by using optical amplification wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology. The combination of four waves (FWM) is a non-linear effect in the wavelength division multiplex (WDM), when more than two wavelengths of light in a fiber launch will occur. FWM amount depends on the channel, the channel spaci...

Enhanced method for the reconstruction of zero-dispersion wavelength maps of optical fibers by measurement of continuous-wave four-wave mixing efficiency.

The zero-dispersion wavelength map of an optical fiber can be obtained from measurement of end-to-end four-wave mixing efficiency at various wavelengths. A fast and unambiguous algorithm for reconstruction of the zero-dispersion wavelength map of an optical fiber by measurement of four-wave mixing efficiency is proposed. This method can produce high-resolution results in a few seconds. We also ...

Modified two-photon absorption and dispersion of ultrafast third-order polarization beats via twin noisy driving fields

We investigate the color-locked twin-noisy-field correlation effects in third-order nonlinear absorption and dispersion of ultrafast polarization beats. We demonstrate a phase-sensitive method for studying the twophoton nondegenerate four-wave mixing NDFWM due to atomic coherence in a multilevel system. The reference signal is another one-photon degenerate four-wave-mixing signal, which propaga...

Accurate Measurements of the Zero-Dispersion Wavelength in Optical Fibers

We have developed a frequency-domain phase shift system for measuring the zero-dispersion wavelength and the dispersion slope of single-mode optical fibers. A differential phase shift method and nonlinear four-wave mixing technique were also investigated. The frequency-domain phase shift method is used to produce Standard Reference Materials that have their zero-dispersion wavelengths character...
